Jesus asks Peter "Who do you say that I am?" This is a question every person who comes into contact with Jesus answers. Do a personal reflection answering this question.
Who do I say Jesus is? It's hard for me to describe. Personally, I'd like to believe he is my Savior, but it doesn't seem like it sometimes. I want to say that he's God, but it just doesn't seem right for a human to be fully human and fully divine. 200% is not possible. I want to say that he did exist and die for us, but nothing seems to make sense to me. I am personally have troubles in my faith right now, but that's beside the point. These troubles, however, are causing me to not believe.
Believe what? Well, that he was fully human and fully divine. If he was fully human, he would die. Humans die. Yet he's also fully divine, and fully divine people, I imagine, would not die. So it's very contradictory. Did his divinity disappear during the Crucifixion? It just makes no sense to me. Then, if he were human, he would have faults and sin, just as us humans do. Yet, he never sinned (at least, what's in the bible says so) and I don't believe he had any faults. If Jesus was not God, then there isn't heaven, because if he was human, he would not rise from the dead. If he is not God, then there is no salvation for man. Jesus must be God since he died like a God. He didn't just die in the ground, he actually rose up to heaven. And, besides that, he rose from the dead. He performed miracles that no human being could do, such as resurrecting Lazarus, changing water into wine, etc. Jesus is also God because of his humanity, seeing as he went by the name "Son of Man" and he never used his divine powers for his own good or to get what he wanted. He lived by his teachings So, it seems very contradictory to be fully human and fully divine. It's like saying I'm fully man and fully woman; that makes no sense.
I can, however, believe that he was the Son of God. From what it says in the bible, he performed miracles and it seemed like there was a lot of evidence to believe he was the Son of God. From what I've learned in church, he definitely seems like the son of God; yet, if he was the son of God, he would just be fully divine. Unless of course God is trying to trick us and make us believe "nothing is impossible" by showing us that someone can be "fully human" and "fully divine". However, I don't believe that's possible, so maybe there's something wrong with my reason right now. Being human I cannot fully understand what "fully human" and "fully divine" mean. I'm making some wild guesses here. But I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, just not "fully human" or "fully divine"
I hope that by the end of this year (school year) that I am ready to say that I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, son of man, and that he truly is fully human and fully divine. I can't believe that right now, because I am doubting him so much, but I hope that if I have faith, I can believe.
